Who knew essential oil could do THAT?

About four years ago I had the opportunity to attend a YogaFit Mind Body Fitness Conference in my own backyard – at the gorgeous Hyatt Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale, AZ. That first morning of the conference, I was in such a hurry to get everything together and get there on time. You know how it goes, right? I needed to iron something before I left the house and in my hurry, I set the iron down kind of wobbly and as I adjusted the top I was ironing, the iron fell over onto my hand! It sort of slid down my hand from just below my pinky about halfway to my wrist.

I burned it pretty badly, but as I really didn’t have much time , I just moved on with getting out the door. By the time I arrived at the Conference Resort, my hand was throbbing and I realized how bad the injury was. My roommate was a nurse (thank goodness!) and when I asked her what I should do, she told me to go the Boutique and see the lady at the doTERRA Essential Oils table!

Wait –

Yes. The doTERRA Essential Oils table. Huh. I thought those just made things smell nice. HOW were oils going to help my hand? Oh well, I thought. What do I have to lose? If this is what the nurse says, I’m not gonna argue! Off I went. And a little sheepishly asked the nice woman at the table if she had anything at all to help my burn. She took one look and immediately said, “Lavender! You need lavender!” and proceeded to carefully drop one or two drops on my hand. I asked her what it would do, and she told me that it would promote the healing process. Ok…I guess. I really figured that I would be heading out to the pharmacy at lunch to get some Neosporin or something. But didn’t have any more time right then and went off to my training.

In all the excitement I didn’t realize it right away, but the throbbing must have stopped immediately, because I didn’t even think about that burn again for about two hours or so.

And when I did???

I could hardly believe my eyes!

The big blister of the burn was gone! And what’s more, there was a layer of what looked like ash where the burn was. I kinda flicked it with my fingernail and it just flaked off! And underneath that ashy, dead skin was pink new skin! Wow. Just wow.

As you can imagine, I HAD to know more. I went back to that doTERRA table, bought my own bottle of magic Lavender oil and asked lots of questions. I did that at every conference I attended over the next three years! And then one day, I couldn’t resist any longer, I signed up and bought a kit with several oils in it so I could try a bunch of them and find out what all I had been missing.

When my kit arrived, it was like Christmas! I carefully opened each bottle and smelled every single one. I had NO IDEA what to do with most of them. But, each week I looked up the benefits and uses of one oil and me and my husband and kids would use it for any application that we could. The next week, we chose a new oil, and another one the next week until we had worked our way through the entire kit. After just a few months, we knew how and when to use each one and had started using them instead of our over-the-counter remedies completely. We have never looked back.

I myself am a Young Living Essential Oils distributor and have been one for over two years. I have never regretted it for one minute as I quit cold turkey off of all of my asthma medications because of all of the negative side effects not too long after I signed up to be a distributor. I love my Thieves oil as it’s my go to oil to keep from getting sick as well as using it for toothaches, I use my peppermint oil for stomachache and when I have some wheezing, I put my lemon oil in my water, use lavender oil to keep mosquitoes and flies from biting, and use the Melaleuca Alternifolia(tea tree oil) for my psoriasis around my eyebrows(I have mixed the oil with an organic lotion that I buy regularly from a nail salon) and only have to use it once a week to control the itching and scaliness from the psoriasis and it wor great!

That’s awesome, Susan! It sounds like essential oils have transformed your life much like they have mine! Some of my favorite uses are to use melaleuca or lavender for skin ailments, peppermint in my coffee (fun!), I love the OnGuard (doTERRA’s immune support, similar to Young Living’s Thieves) to keep the whole family healthy, Sandalwood in my bath when I’ve been traveling, eucalyptus when I’m feeling stuffy, and oh so many more! Thanks for hanging out here and sharing some of your wisdom! We all have so much to share and learn from each other.

I use essential oils with a nebulizer. Just a few drops in the water and the room is filled with fragrance. I use lavender to relax at bed time and use eucalyptus and lemon for sinus congestion or an energy boost.
I don’t like to use chemical air fresheners or scented candles so this is a safe and natural way to enjoy my favorites scents and get the benefits from the oils.

Love these uses Skyler! I agree that essential oils provide a much better alternative to chemical air fresheners! Many blessings!
