Whatcha been doin’ lately? Have you been running around like crazy trying to get everything done? Sacrificing your own needs to take care of people around you? Yep. Me too. Sometimes we just need to pull back and take 10 – like a 10 minute break to get it back together!
So, earlier this week I decided to re-group a bit and revitalize my daily routines that nourish my mind, body and soul. Even the great routines can start to feel tired if we keep on doing the same ol’ thing without keeping it fresh, right? So, here’s a few of the things I changed up.
I like to use a mantra or positive affirmation when I meditate. When I evaluated, I realized that I have gotten into a habit of just repeating it without REALLY paying attention to what it means. So, I purposed to pay attention and consider my affirmation with each repetition. AMAZING the difference this one simply step can make! Ready to meditate? Check this one out – I made it for you!
There are a few things I like to do to take care of myself each morning, you know, besides brushing my teeth and applying deodorant! Lately, I’ve been kinda lazy about my routine though. I really like to begin the morning with my tongue-scraper, and then move on to dry-brushing before my shower and then finish up with applying sesame oil to moisturize. I ran out of oil a couple weeks ago and hadn’t replaced it. I was using regular lotion, which is fine, I guess, but something about using the oil makes me feel like I am really taking care of myself, so I got a new bottle for myself. It’s so great!
It’s true – sometimes I waste time scrolling through FaceBook when I could be taking a nice break from screen time and general busy-ness. I know I’m not alone here. So, this week, I reminded myself to put my phone down when I realized I was using it to fill up mind-space. It’s amazing how much more beautiful real life is than keeping your head in cyber-world! If it’s been awhile since you’ve taken a screen break, I highly recommend it!
While completing my yearly workbooks from Leonie Dawson, I came across Leonie’s recommendation to read The Art of Extreme Self-Care by Cheryl Richardson. It’s great! Some of the things I already do, and some I have decided to try. If you are looking for some ways to bring more love from yourself into your life, this is a great read!
What I’ve realized over the years is that taking care of myself isn’t hard. It’s just that it takes some thought and planning and an intention to follow-through with it. If you’d like to hear more about this, catch my interview with Renee Li on the OM Wisdom Summit 2016. It’s coming up in just a couple weeks. Click here to see the full schedule of interviews. There are several wonderful speakers this year! Here are some things you can expect:
Develop stronger intuition to access peace and clarity
Power up your body with healthy aging and preventative care
Adopt healthy habits that offer you perfect health
Clear blocks to create full color transformation
Utilize Crystal Magic for well-being
Align with your Greater purpose for fulfillment
Awaken your inner Healer
So, tell me, what is your favorite way to “take 10” and take care of yourself?
Spring is here! At least in Phoenix, AZ. And we all know what that means –
Time to clean out the garage and storage areas before it gets to be 110 degrees outside!
I got a little jump start on the garage this year. I was feeling kind of restless one extra balmy Saturday a few weekends ago and decided that I couldn’t stand looking at the mess for one more minute. So I rearranged and cleaned to my heart’s content. It looks AWESOME now! Everything in its place.
My next order of business in the Spring Cleaning department has nothing to do with the garage or even the house though. Know what it is? My gut. Yep. Time to do a little digestive reset. The heaviness of holiday foods and comfort foods of winter are on their way out and I can tell my digestion would really appreciate a little Spring Cleaning of its own.
Would your body say THANK YOU if you took a few days to clean out the cheese dip from the Super Bowl and gave it the boost of greens and water that it needs?
I’m starting a cleanse next week and would love to do it together so we can give each other lots of awesome support! How about you?
If you’re thinking YES then email me right now!
If you’re thinking, I dunno…..maybe….then email me RIGHT NOW!
We can break those sugar cravings in just a few days and get rid of lingering holiday pounds all at the same time!
What’s even cooler is that I can get you a $50 discount on your first order! Woo hoo! It doesn’t get better than that!
Transformation can have a lot of different faces and transforming how our body processes and craves food is a big one for setting the stage for us to be and feel our best!
I work with people everyday to bring transformation to their lives. For some of them, it is through yoga class, for others it’s through voice or piano lessons, still others have private coaching sessions. In all of them, we talk about the tools we can use to create the life we want. Some are looking for a healthier body, others to learn a skill they don’t have and others are looking to build confidence or add an element of fun to their days and weeks. No matter what we are studying or working on though, they all want to know my recommendation on how to achieve the transformation they are looking for.
Over the weeks, months and years I have spent working with people to create lives they love, one thing comes around over and over. So many people I talk to are looking for that deep sense of inner peace. A calm center from which to navigate all of life’s challenges – everything from managing family schedules to major life-changes. People need, and want a dependable anchor to hold onto.
If you truly want to take your life to the next level and you don’t yet have a meditation practice, this is your next step. This is my top recommendation for deep inner transformation! I sincerely believe that you will only be able to access that deep inner peace and confidence after you commit to and begin a regular meditation practice.
You don’t have to go to India, or to an ashram or a retreat center or even your local religious establishment. You can begin your practice today. Now. With your very next breath if you want. You don’t even have to get up from where you are!
My first attempts at meditation were, um, haphazard at best. I was trying soooo hard to do it “right” without realizing that there is no “right” way to meditate. Meditation is very personal. There are some tried and true formats you can start with, and you may find one you really like. But you may give a few of them a try only to realize that you hear the beat of your own meditation drummer and would like to develop your own very personal practice. That’s totally cool too!
I have lots of recommendations of places to start, but my biggest encouragement is this: choose one practice and stick with it for at least a month. That gives you enough time to get to know the style of meditation before you give it the boot. These things take time. Let it percolate and breathe. As you settle into the practice, the practice helps to settle you.

Oh goodness. Has anyone ever said something like this to you? They give you a compliment and then…the dreaded transition word comes – “I’m really fond of you, BUT…”
I teach a few voice and piano lessons. My bachelor’s degree is in Music Education and I did spend a few years teaching in public schools. These days I like to focus those skills by teaching private lessons. I have a few elementary aged kids and also a few adults who are picking it up after wanting to learn for many years. Admittedly, most of the kids are taking because their PARENTS want them too. And as such, they meet me for lessons with some measure of disdain. That doesn’t bother me though. I make it as fun as I can while teaching them skills that I know help them in other areas of life.
This story is about one student in particular, Lexi. I have been teaching her for a couple years now and she’s pretty talented. This child can remember everything we’ve covered, she memorizes songs effortlessly, and has a fearlessness that will serve her well in life.
Over these past two years, Lexi hasn’t hidden the fact that despite her talents, piano just isn’t her most favorite activity, but she’s never come right out and told me so.
We were sitting there having our lesson, and Lexi was a little distracted. I could see she wasn’t totally into it. Finally, she turns to me, sweetly puts her hand on my shoulder and says,
Then she proceeded to give me a hug, just to illustrate that there are no hard feelings.
Oh, from the mouths of babes! If only we could all learn this lesson.
We don’t all have to love the same things or share the same interests or even agree on the deeper issues of life. We can STILL recognize each others’ iridescent amazingness and treat each other with love and honor. Wouldn’t that be fantastic?
If we take a moment to pause, I would imagine we could all think of someone that we have a hard time dealing with because of some difference we have with them. But what if we were able to put that aside and see how shiny and sparkly they are anyway? I tell ya, I think it could prove to be a powerful exercise.
So, even though it surprised me a bit at first, thanks Lexi for your words of wisdom! I am deeply grateful. And I’m really fond of you too. : )
About four years ago I had the opportunity to attend a YogaFit Mind Body Fitness Conference in my own backyard – at the gorgeous Hyatt Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale, AZ. That first morning of the conference, I was in such a hurry to get everything together and get there on time. You know how it goes, right? I needed to iron something before I left the house and in my hurry, I set the iron down kind of wobbly and as I adjusted the top I was ironing, the iron fell over onto my hand! It sort of slid down my hand from just below my pinky about halfway to my wrist.
I burned it pretty badly, but as I really didn’t have much time , I just moved on with getting out the door. By the time I arrived at the Conference Resort, my hand was throbbing and I realized how bad the injury was. My roommate was a nurse (thank goodness!) and when I asked her what I should do, she told me to go the Boutique and see the lady at the doTERRA Essential Oils table!
Yes. The doTERRA Essential Oils table. Huh. I thought those just made things smell nice. HOW were oils going to help my hand? Oh well, I thought. What do I have to lose? If this is what the nurse says, I’m not gonna argue! Off I went. And a little sheepishly asked the nice woman at the table if she had anything at all to help my burn. She took one look and immediately said, “Lavender! You need lavender!” and proceeded to carefully drop one or two drops on my hand. I asked her what it would do, and she told me that it would promote the healing process. Ok…I guess. I really figured that I would be heading out to the pharmacy at lunch to get some Neosporin or something. But didn’t have any more time right then and went off to my training.
In all the excitement I didn’t realize it right away, but the throbbing must have stopped immediately, because I didn’t even think about that burn again for about two hours or so.
The big blister of the burn was gone! And what’s more, there was a layer of what looked like ash where the burn was. I kinda flicked it with my fingernail and it just flaked off! And underneath that ashy, dead skin was pink new skin! Wow. Just wow.
As you can imagine, I HAD to know more. I went back to that doTERRA table, bought my own bottle of magic Lavender oil and asked lots of questions. I did that at every conference I attended over the next three years! And then one day, I couldn’t resist any longer, I signed up and bought a kit with several oils in it so I could try a bunch of them and find out what all I had been missing.
When my kit arrived, it was like Christmas! I carefully opened each bottle and smelled every single one. I had NO IDEA what to do with most of them. But, each week I looked up the benefits and uses of one oil and me and my husband and kids would use it for any application that we could. The next week, we chose a new oil, and another one the next week until we had worked our way through the entire kit. After just a few months, we knew how and when to use each one and had started using them instead of our over-the-counter remedies completely. We have never looked back.
Curious what essential oils can actually do for you? Here are some of the benefits of three of the most popular oils:
• Widely used for its calming and relaxing qualities
• Soothes occasional skin irritations
• Helps skin recover quickly
• Eases muscle tension
• Promotes healthy respiratory function and clear breathing
• Alleviates occasional stomach upset
• Frequently used in toothpaste and chewing gum for oral health
• Cleanses and purifies the air and surfaces
• Naturally cleanses the body and aids in digestion
• Supports healthy respiratory function
• Promotes a positive mood and cognitive ability
• Helps ward off free radicals with its antioxidant benefits
• Soothes an irritated throat

Hey there Dragonflies! It’s great to be back in action! In case you are just joining us, I took a few weeks off over the holidays and into the new year to rest, rejuvenate, see family and do some planning for 2016. It as been a wonderful few weeks! If you have the freedom to take some time away from work (even work that you LOVE, like me), I HIGHLY suggest you do so! The way your mind, body and soul relax over a longer vacation is far different than just a week here and there.
We are almost a full month into this new year, and I am wondering – how’s it going so far? Are you still on track to realize goals that you set just four weeks ago? Or maybe a better question – are you still thinking that you’d like to set some goals for 2016, but wondering if it’s too late? Well, IT’S NOT! No way! We can set goals at any time and gather the resources to get them done whether it’s January or December.
One of the things that speaks to me deeply is having things that I do on a daily basis that keep me grounded and feeling well-cared-for. Here’s my list:
Do I complete every single one every day – nope. BUT, I do complete most of them AND way more of them than I did before I made my list and placed it in my planner so I could see it everyday!
I made a template for YOU! So you can create your own daily routine list!
So, what are your big dreams for this year? What areas of your life do you want to see completely TRANSFORMED???
I would really like to hear from you which areas of life are either your biggest challenge or top priority so that the topics we cover this year make the most impact. We will get after it in the next couple of weeks facilitating YOUR transformation. You can email me or comment below to let me know!
If basic planning is high on your list, I found an AMAZING tool that I have used the past couple of years to both help me close and release the previous year AND plan for and create all my hopes and dreams for the next. I’m not sure what it is, but around the holidays I get all crafty. I think it stems back to my childhood when I gave homemade ornaments to my relatives every year.
Anyway – I have three projects under way this year: Pumpkin Bread (dowload the recipe here), Dryer Balls (which are an awesome replacement for dryer sheets!) and Chakra Bracelets (oh how I love to bead!).
What is it about making gifts that moves me? I think it’s because it’s so grounding. As a culture, we are spacey, and hurried and UN-grounded. We live most of our lives in the top 14 inches of our body. In the Spring and Summer, I love to go for long walks and take my shoes off at every available opportunity for this reason. It helps me re-connect to the earth, to my deeper self. But in the winter, it’s too cold! And the lower temps and drier air contribute to the problem.
It can be lots of things. For me, it’s crafting! Working with my hands and getting into that mind space where there is no electronic input slows me down and helps me get a grip again! It can also be cooking. The methodical chopping, the cooking, the stirring, the baking – all of it – brings us back into our bodies and settles us down. I even calm down THINKING about it! Warm baths are also a great way to settle down and re-connect.
With the holidays coming upon rather quickly, complete with the end of semester finals (for my kids) and traveling around to see family and gatherings with friends, things are getting kind of busy around here.
Not to mention that it’s time to do my end-of-the-year reflections and planning for 2016. With that in mind, I’ll be taking some time off from blogging and facebook-ing to glean the most from 2015’s lessons and set 2016 up to be the best it can be!
I’ll be back in the saddle around mid-January. In the meantime, I am wishing you a wonderful holiday season and grand start to the new year.
If you are looking for some thoughtful gifts for someone you know and love, check out these items. I will be finishing up taking orders this weekend and mailing the final batch of goodies on Monday. So, if you want something, let me know right away! Here are the highlights:
This workbook has changed my life! Both on the personal level AND the business level! It’s a must-have!
If you have kiddos or teach yoga to kiddos, I cannot speak highly enough of these books! My friend Lindsey wrote them (I got to edit them!) and they are THE BOMB! Beautifully written, beautifully illustrated, and there’s also an accompanying album available to sing along!
I travel everywhere with these oils. Not only do they help with balancing chakra energies, they all have multiple purposes like helping with upset tummy, lightening mood, opening stuffy noses, cleansing a cut, providing immune support and MORE!
I love making pumpkin bread. I’ve done it every year for over 20 years now. I love it. My friends say they love it. And I think my family loves it too.
But, it’s kinda surprising I have kept at it all these years when you know how it all started…
It was 1992. I was a newly-wed and living in the Married Student Housing Apartments at my University. Feeling all domestic, I got the bright idea to make Pumpkin Bread Muffins as a gift for a couple friends. I gathered my ingredients, mixed them up, set the kitchen timer and put the muffins in the oven to bake.
And then I left.
To go visit some other friends.
Forty-five minutes away.
I realized my awful mistake about TWO HOURS later.
I called the university operator in a panic and by the time the housing manager got to our apartment and let herself in, the entire place was filled with smoke, the smoke alarm was going off, and the pumpkin muffins looked like little hockey pucks. They were completely black and only about an inch and a half tall. I’m surprised I didn’t catch the entire complex on fire!
By this point, you are probably wondering what would make me EVER choose to do that again! But I did. And I have. Every year since then. Fast forward 20+ years to Tuesday…
So, it was a beautiful morning. I had the house all to myself and I mixed up the Pumpkin Goodness. I put 4 mini-loaves in the oven and got on a conference call. (Why do all the crazy things happen when you’re on a conference call???) Right about the time I thought the loaves should be done, I smelled something. And it wasn’t that wonderful Pumpkin Bread aroma. It was more like…burning oven.
And then it happened.
Right in the middle of my conference call, the smoke alarm started going off!
I burned the Pumpkin Bread.
What is the point of this story, you may ask? It’s this:
See, if I had decided to quit after that first burnt bread experience, I would have never had the opportunity to know the joy of cooking for my friends and family. And they would have missed years and years of yummy-goodness. And I would have missed the joys (and challenges) of the process each year.
And this is how it is with our personal practices. When we decide to quit after one bad experience, we miss the joys (and challenges) that come with the continued practice. Anyone relate to this? Meditation, perhaps? Trying yoga or a new exercise program? How about making changes to your diet? Yep. We’ve all had experiences when we “burned” it. Whatever it was, was a miserable failure. And so we quit.
But what if…
What if we gave it another try?
What if we committed to working on it (whatever it is)?
For the next week – or month – or year?
I’d love to hear from you. Let me know what it is you want to commit to practice.
And, in case making Pumpkin Bread isn’t your thing, check out these other meaningful gift ideas:
This is my second year using this workbook and planner bundle and it is a game-changer! Especially if you would like to make some things HAPPEN in 2016!
These beautiful workbooks lead you through letting go of 2015 and planning ahead for a beautiful 2016 complete with goals and steps to reach them.
I had the awesome privilege of getting to work with Lindsey on this great yoga resource for parents and teachers. A thoughtful gift for little ones and the ones who love them!
“Readers will appreciate the simplicity of the bold, colorful illustrations that manage to be both eye-catching and soothing at the same time. Each character demonstrates the correct yoga positions. This book is a great tool for parents who want to help their children learn about relaxation through yoga. As an added bonus, the book includes an album of songs that are set to familiar tunes that will have the whole family singing along.” ~Debbie Sellers
This little travel kit of oils goes with me everywhere. From yoga class, to trainings across the country, I use them pretty much every day for something. This kit also comes with a beautiful meditation card and reference guide for additional uses for each oil. 10 oils (1 for each chakra, 2 to prep for meditation, and 1 to cleanse).
Hey Dragonflies! I have some super exciting news today! I recently shared my thoughts about Creating Space for transformation on a webinar! Woo hoo! I’m over here doing the happy dance!
This is THE topic chosen by popular vote from a survey I sent out. Transformation never goes out of style, and seems to be of particular interest right now.
So, if you want to move forward with space in your head and heart for thankfulness, you GOTTA come hang out with me! (Plus, I’ve always wanted to meet you!)
Here’s what we’ll cover:
WHY it’s important, necessary and beneficial to create space
HOW to create that space – we’ll do an activity together!
WHAT to put in that space once it’s created – this will be GREAT!
Do you feel it? That restlessness that comes with the transformation of the seasons. Perhaps your schedule changes a bit, or daylight saving time throws your off for a few days. You may become nostalgic or feel fancy-free. At the very least, your wardrobe is probably turning to some warmer options. Who else loves sweater weather???
Change is in the air and I don’t know about you, but I can feel it in every aspect of my life.
One thing I have noticed for myself is that autumn is the time when I am most likely to engage inner transformation. Just like the way the leaves begin to show their true colors, I sense mine emerging with cooling temps. I usually enroll in a course, or adopt a new practice, or journal more frequently.
What is it that you embrace during this time when the earth embraces such deep transformation? Do you clean the garage? Look up new recipes to try? Get all crafty? Find a hiking group? Make s’mores by the fire?
Whatever you choose – Does it soothe your soul? Does it rearrange your inner closets? Does it change you?
Would you like to purposefully embrace something this year that has the potential to transform you on the deepest level? You know, that level where we talk to ourselves.
If you would like to transform that inner dialogue from hateful to helpful or from depressing to inspiring, you are so in luck right now!
I have been consolidating all I have learned over the past couple of decades about transforming inner dialogue into a 5-week course that will guide you through the process of changing your inner voices from down-right mean, into the encouraging, loving voices we all wish to hear.
Are you interested in this course? Let me know!
